Terms of Service
Last updated Jul 20, 2026
These are the rules for using Lumen. We have kept them short and readable, because terms nobody can read protect nobody.
The agreement
By creating an account you agree to these terms. The agreement is between you and Maurer Software, which operates Lumen. If you are using Lumen for an organisation, you confirm you may accept these terms on its behalf.
You must be at least 16 years old to use Lumen.
What we provide
Lumen builds websites from what you describe, and publishes them to an address we provide or to a domain you own. We work hard to make the result good, but a generated design is a starting point you refine. We do not promise any particular design outcome, search ranking, or commercial result.
Your account
You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping access to your email secure, since that is how you sign in. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
What you own
Your website is yours. You own the content you provide and the website produced from it, and you may use it however you like, including commercially. We claim no ownership over it.
We own Lumen itself, meaning the software, the design system, and the brand. Nothing here gives you rights to those beyond using the service.
You give us permission to store, process, and publish your content only to the extent we need it to run the service for you. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account.
What you may not do
You may not use Lumen to build or publish anything that:
- breaks the law, or infringes someone else’s copyright or trademark;
- impersonates a person, company, bank, or public authority, or is designed to deceive people into giving up passwords, payment details, or personal information;
- distributes malware, or is used to send spam or run a scam;
- contains sexual content involving minors, incites violence or hatred, or harasses a specific person;
- sells goods or services you are not licensed to sell, where a licence is required.
You also may not resell Lumen as your own service, attempt to extract our prompts or models, or work around usage limits, rate limits, or credit accounting.
We enforce this. Published sites carry our domain in their address, so abuse harms every other customer. We may remove a site or suspend an account that breaches this section, and for phishing, malware, or content involving minors we will do so immediately and without notice.
Importing a website
If you import an existing website, you confirm that it is yours or that you have the right to use its content, and that it complies with the acceptable-use rules above. You are responsible for what you upload.
An import is a best-effort reconstruction: Lumen rebuilds your site from its visible content as a new Lumen project, so the result may differ from the original in layout and detail, and it will not carry over any code, scripts, or backend from your old site. We may decline to import content that appears to breach these terms.
Plans, credits and payment
Current plans, prices and credit amounts are on our pricing page. Prices include applicable Swiss VAT where it applies.
Building and editing websites consumes credits. Monthly plans grant credits each month; annual plans grant the whole year’s credits at the start of the term. Unused credits roll over while your subscription is active. When your balance reaches zero, building stops until you top up or upgrade, but your existing websites stay published.
Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel at any time from your billing page; your plan then runs to the end of the period you have paid for and does not renew. We do not refund part-used periods, and top-up credits are not refundable, except where the law requires otherwise.
If a payment fails and stays unpaid, your account moves to the free plan. Credits you have already been granted stay with you.
We may change prices, and will give at least 30 days’ notice by email before a change affects you. If you do not accept it, cancel before it takes effect.
Ending it
You may delete your account whenever you like, from your account page. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your websites go offline, their addresses are released, and your remaining credits are discarded without refund. We keep only the invoices the law requires us to keep.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms. If we close your account for a reason other than a breach, we will refund the unused part of your current period.
Availability and liability
We aim to keep Lumen available and your published sites online, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Maintenance, third-party outages, and faults happen.
Lumen is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for lost profits, lost business, or indirect losses, and our total liability in any twelve-month period is limited to what you paid us in that period. Nothing here limits liability for death, personal injury, gross negligence, or intent, which cannot be excluded under Swiss law.
You remain responsible for the content of your website, including whether it is accurate and whether it complies with the rules of your own industry.
Changes to these terms
If we change these terms materially, we will email you at least 30 days beforehand. Continuing to use Lumen after that means you accept the new version.
Law and jurisdiction
Swiss law applies, and the courts of Aarau, Switzerland have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.
Who we are
Lumen is operated by Maurer Software, a sole proprietorship in Switzerland, entered in the Swiss commercial register under CHE-199.123.882.
